Tony Khan Reveals Who Suggested AEW Bring In Erick Redbeard For Brodie Lee Tribute Show
One of the most special nights in the brief history of AEW, let alone a special night in all of pro wrestling, was the Brodie Lee tribute show a few weeks ago. In what may have been one of the more emotional moments of the night, Lee’s old tag team partner Erick Rebeard showed up to help Alex Reynolds, John Silver, and Hangman Adam Page stave off outside interference to defeat MJF, Santana, and Ortiz. However, it almost didn’t happen.
Tony Khan was a guest on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, and Khan admitted that bringing in Rowan (now known as Erick Redbeard) wasn’t his idea. It was, in fact, suggested to him by Shawn Spears. Khan liked the idea and they managed to put the appearance together.
“That was Spears’ idea, yeah that was Spears’ idea. The day before he asked if I wanted to use Erick Redbeard. I said, would like to have him, that’s a great idea. I would probably have him come out in the middle of the show and do the thing with the Dark Order and Hangman there and then have Amanda and Brodie Lee Jr. at the end, and that’s why we did it that way.”
It may not have been originally in his plans, but many people can certainly appreciate that it eventually worked out for Khan, Redbeard, and AEW. It was a wonderful moment that fans will never forget. You can relive the emotional moment below.
