Titles, Ladies and Gentlemen. Titles.
It’s as simple as that. Recent events have shown me one thing and that’s apart from potentially 6-man tag belts, AEW do not need to introduce any more titles to the promotion.
When Kenny made the jump to Impact as AEW world champion with Don Callis, deal between the promotions or not, the move made sense and fans would have accepted if this rule of bouncing between promotions only applied to Omega.
However the recent twist of AEW’s Matt Hardy & Private Party showing up on Impact and Private Party becoming no.1 contenders to the IMPACT world tag titles has opened my eyes a bit to what exactly both promotions now have access to.
Does the AEW women’s division need a set of tag belts to finally justify having a big selection of talent? Yes but recently Impact introduced their women’s tag team championship titles. This is important. Not to mention, in singles competition, they have the AEW and NWA women’s world titles already in circulation before even considering the Knockout’s title of Impact coming into play.
There is a lot of talent in both companies combined who likely won’t win a major singles title. With this coalition, AEW offer the TNT title, Impact have the X-division title and both obviously have their own world title.
Here’s one example:
Jungleboy may not win the AEW world title any time soon but would he be a believable X-division champion right now? I absolutely think he would.
Once you start listing names to the titles, the possibilities seem endless; Moose as TNT champion, Omega already is angled to win the Impact world title, what if TH2 never won the AEW tag titles but they won the Impact titles? There’s a lot of potential.
There are many more reasons why the promotions working together is great for fans and talent but the title aspect is one of the most important to me personally.
