Update On The Rock’s WrestleMania Plans For The Future

Every year when the Road to WrestleMania starts, there’s one part time superstar everyone hopes makes an appearance on the Grandest Stage of them all, and that’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson has his hands in a lot of projects right now, with his “Young Rock” sitcom he’s executive producing set to premiere next month, in addition to production on Black Adam and various other projects.

Many people are highly anticipating a one on one match with The Rock and Roman Reigns, but it’s safe to say that won’t be happening this year. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about The Rock’s WrestleMania status, and while Rock is always open to performing, he’d like to do it in front of a bigger crowd. A minimal capacity WrestleMania with social distancing guidelines and protocols are understandable, but it’s not the kind of show he’d like to make his return at.

“I know how Dwayne’s brain works on these things. He’s got this mentality, and I know this from all of our discussions that to him, and I guess because of how he grew up and everything like that, the idea of doing the match in front of 100,000 people means a lot to him. Obviously, this year whatever the number is going to be he’s not going to be close to that so he would — if he’s going to do something, and I don’t know if he will; and there are other things that are more important than WrestleMania that could get in the way at any time. I always thought that the SoFi Stadium match, I thought he would do that.”

This year’s WrestleMania was originally supposed to be at SoFi stadium in California, but the pandemic forced changes. Now with WrestleMania not going Hollywood until 2023, such a thought could get pushed back until then. And even then, with two years between now and then, it’s possible we might not see The Rock then either. We’ll have to see how things go between now and then.
