Christian Is Owed An Intercontinental Title Shot From Seven Years Ago…Against Big E

Last night saw a feel good moment at the Royal Rumble when WWE saw Christian return after what looked to be a career ended by concussions. A promo posted on YouTube had Christian saying all he promised was one more match, and if that’s all he wants, it could be one hell of a match.

Christian’s last match in the WWE came back in 2014, where he defeated Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and Dolph Ziggler in a match on Raw that earned him an Intercontinental Title match. It never happened.

The more interesting note comes with this. The Intercontinental Champion he earned a shot against? SmackDown’s Big E. Big E offered a handshake to Christian after the match he didn’t accept, but we were told the match would take place the next night on Main Event. The match never happened, and Christian then wound up being on the shelf for seven years.

This might be nothing. Then again, it might be everything. WWE can often forget these things, but if it doesn’t, it could be a fun feature match for Big E and Christian to build to for WrestleMania. Anything can happen at this point, but we’ll hopefully see at least a cheeky acknowledgement of this. You can watch highlights from the match below.
