Scorpio Sky Discusses Becoming Part Of The First Ever AEW Tag Team Champions
If you didn’t know much about Scorpio Sky before AEW, you’d be forgiven. Despite being one of PWG’s mainstays, it seemed like he fell behind some of his peers until arriving in Ring of Honor. Forming the SCU faction with Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels gave Sky a huge chance to succeed, which transitioned to his time in AEW.
Since then, they’ve given him the ball and he’s run with it. In one of the bigger shocks in AEW, he and Kazarian bested the Lucha Bros. in the finals of the AEW Tag Team Title tournament, a match where many people thought Penta and Rey Fenix would win. Instead, SCU became the first ever AEW Tag Team Champions, only catapaulting Sky to bigger heights in the company. Talking about that match with Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards on AEW Unrestricted, Sky talks about how he knew the fans considered their opponents heavy favorites.
“I think a lot of the fans kind of saw us as a stepping stone for the Lucha Brothers, and that it was just gonna be a coronation for them because they are a fantastic tag team and one of the best tag teams in the world.”
Sky managed to turn that victory to the start of bigger things, including challenging then AEW World Champion Chris Jericho. Even if he’s not a weekly staple of AEW Dynamite, Sky is continuing to do big work with AEW by being part of their Wrestling With the Week podcast and remaining influential in the company.
