Mark Henry admits he came up through wrestling a little differently than the current crop of WWE Superstars.
It was a topic of discussion on Busted Open Radio, when Henry and the hosts talked about how Pat McAfee had paid a lot of respect to people as he first got to NXT and wrestling in general. It had Mark Henry talking about his experience as a young wrestler in the WWE, specifically as he had been made to run errands and learn from Yokozuna. He felt that his experience helped him learn and keep him humble, especially as he feels many stars come to the WWE feeling entitled.
“That dude [Yokozuna] took care of me, man. I didn’t pay for the car. I didn’t pay for my hotels. Nothing. He took care of everything. All he asked was for me not to question him. He said, look man if I tell you to do something just do it and I got you, and he did. He took care of me in a way that nobody in my wrestling history has. I drove the car, I fetched the bags, I went and got his food, and if he had other errands for me to do, I did. if the wrestling business can go back to that and put guys with the veterans and have them be mentored, is really what it was, then the business will be better because now we have this jaded, oh I’m already somebody, type of mentality.”
Henry has talked about poor behavior in the past from people in the locker room. He was especially critical of Lio Rush during his WWE time and what he felt was entitled behavior by Rush. Whether the ways of yesterday are appropriate now or not, it’s clear the attitude of some of the current roster has left Henry a little cold.
