Last night in the main event of NXT UK Kay Lee Ray successfully defended her NXT UK Women’s Championship against the final boss Meiko Satomura, cementing her legacy as one of the most dominant champions in the modern era.
Kay Lee Ray is the 3rd person to hold the NXT UK Women’s Championship. Rhea Ripley won a Tournament to crown the inaugural champion and she held the title for 139 days before loosing the to Toni Storm who then held the championship for 230 days. Kay Lee Ray defeated Toni Storm for the championship at NXT UK Takeover Cardiff on the 31st of August 2019, she has since eclipsed the both Rhea’s and Toni’s reign holding the title for 551 days.
There is an argument that the length of her reign will require an asterisk due to not competing for nearly 9 months since the UK Covid lockdown. Since returning to action in September last year Kay Lee Ray has defended her title on 4 occasions, twice against Piper Niven, once against Jinny and most recently Meiko Satomura.
It remains to be seen who will be the next person to face Kay Lee Ray but it looks most likely to be Afoie Valkyrie who is unbeaten since the return of NXT UK. However there are plenty of credible contenders waiting in the wings including; Xia Brookside, Dani Luna and NXT UK’s latest signing Millie McKenzie.
