It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Finn Balor bring out The Demon, and no time would be quite like NXT TakeOver for it. Considering the challenge in Karrion Kross he has on night two of the event, one wouldn’t be surprised if he considered it for the moment.
However, Balor would be inclined to disagree with you. There’s been a change of character in Balor since his return to NXT, and however cool it would be to see Kross’ intimidating entrance going head to head with some of the awe inspiring entrances The Demon has made, Balor believes that a return to The Demon would be regressing in the direction he’s been going since returning to the black and gold brand. He discussed this with ITN and feels right now, the direction to face Kross should be as The Prince.
“As soon as Karrion Kross came to NXT, people kinda had this idea of a dream scenario of Karrion Kross versus The Demon. The battle of the two entrances, and the battle of the two darker characters. But for me, in this moment of my career, I feel like The Demon would be a step back. I feel like right now with my ring work as the Prince, I feel very comfortable. I feel very controlled. And I feel that’s the direction I have to go at TakeOver.”
“So I don’t wanna let anyone down. In the moments, there’s gonna be no Demon. But there’s gonna be the very dark side of the Prince that is gonna meticulously take apart Karrion Kross.”
Balor has previously said we would see the return of the Demon someday, but it doesn’t seem to be the case this time around. We may see him don the paint again someday, but it looks like for this upcoming title defense, Balor looks to be relying on being The Prince more than The Demon.
