Vince McMahon Says His First Impression Of Steve Austin Was He Was A Waste of Time

Steve Austin wasn’t pegged for main event success immediately with the WWE. His gimmick of The Ringmaster didn’t exactly scream top of the card (and was seemingly rejected by a wrestler who had just left the company as he was coming in), and maybe that was for a reason.

Austin received an episode of A&E’s long running Biography show, where Vince McMahon revealed that his first impression of Steve Austin wasn’t exactly a great one. During the show, McMahon revealed something that could surprise a lot of people who know that Austin has now gone down as one of the greatest stars in company history and one of its biggest draws. McMahon revealed he actually didn’t think Austin was worth much.

“My initial impressions of him was, ‘He’s wasting my time.’”

Austin eventually had a chance to change his luck as he shed the Ringmaster gimmick in favor of Stone Cold Steve Austin and the rest is history. However, if Vince McMahon had stuck in his ways about his initial thoughts for Austin, history could have turned out very differently.
