The main event of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite had major implications not just for its flagship company, but for another company as well.
The match, which saw Jon Moxley defend his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer in a Texas Deathmatch, was a brutal affair.
After a grueling bout, Archer was able to pull off the upset after choke-slamming Moxley through a set of two barbed-wire covered tables to become the new IWGP U.S Champion.
The loss marks the end of a historic title reign for the purveyor of violence. Moxley had held the belt for a record-setting 564 days. A reign which started when Mox beat Archer in a separate Texas Deathmatch in Tokyo, Japan at WrestleKingdom 14.
The win, however, signals a second reign with the U.S Title for the Muderhawk Monster. Archer first won the championship back in October of 2019 by defeating Juice Robinson to win the vacated belt.
The grind doesn’t stop for Lance Archer, as he is set to make his first defense of the IWGP U.S Heavyweight Championship against the Bullet Club’s Hikuleo next week on AEW Dynamite.
