Tony Khan Wanted To Gift “King Of Hart’s” Nickname To Martha Hart

Last week we reported that AEW had announced that it had reached an agreement to partner up with the Owen Hart Foundation. With this partnership, AEW will be able to use Owen Harts likeness for merchandise including action figures and will feature the late superstar in the companies upcoming console videogame. It was also announced that the company would be holding a tournament in honor of Hart.

Now Some news is now coming out in regards to the ‘King Of Hart’s name. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted something very interesting. AEW did try to copyright “King of Harts,” but they could not. Their intention for that trademark had nothing to do with the tournament itself. In fact, they were going to give that name away.

It was stated that Tony Khan intended to gift Martha Hart the “King of Harts” nickname if he could secure the trademark. Sadly, they were unable to get that done.

AEW’s attempting to trademark King of Harts was not to be the name of the annual tournament named after Owen Hart. Tony Khan said he always had the idea of the Owen Hart Cup and later “The Owen” for the tournament. The company at the same time did try to trademark King of Harts, but the plan was to get the name and then give it to Dr. Martha Hart as a gift

There is still a chance that Khan can secure the name, but it still has not happened as of now.
