Jeff Jarrett On The Cancellation Of TNA Reaction
TNA Reaction was a professional wrestling-focused documentary that aired on Spike TV that ran from April to December of 2010. After its initial run of ten episodes, the final episode aired on December 30th, 2010 before being pulled by the network.
The concept of the show was to show emotions that were expressed immediately following a match. Some episodes included sit-down interviews on current storylines that featured TNA superstars such as AJ Styles, Hulk Hogan, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Anderson, and Kurt Angle.
On the latest My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett goes into detail as to why Spike TV pulled the plug on the show despite its popular reviews.
“I’m well aware of the Spike TV deal, I never saw a paper that said that we were going to pay you for this. I was always under the impression that it was a trial run and neither side could really quantify what it was going to cost TNA Entertainment to produce? We had to deliver it. What is the real, hard cost? Obviously, you had talent there, but you also have post-production. Again, a transition period. I don’t think at this time Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey, or BHE (Bischoff Hervey Entertainment) was officially named the executive producers. I was removed as executive producer in September of 2009 and I don’t think a new one was named until 2011. Eric Bischoff and they were there, but Eric’s official title was someone that was an advisor to Hulk Hogan, and then that turned into being an on-screen character; it just sort of morphed into that. I don’t know where before, during, or after, but my impression was that it was always a trial period; what is it really going to cost? What is the upside going to be? Is it really going to increase revenue for us? A show like that really isn’t a big licensing deal because you have talent there; we have to post this, edit it up, and flip it, so it wasn’t going to be a massive amount of revenue as far as licensing deal. Would it create buys, awareness? That is all debatable, but I wasn’t surprised.”
