Friday evening Bellator 275 went down with several Irish fighters fighting on the card, several of whom are members of SBG and trained by John Kavanagh and the Irish contingent of fighters had a special fan in attendance as “The Notorious” Conor McGregor attended from the very first fight of the night as Lee Hammond scored a first round TKO which led to McGregor invading a Bellator cage once again, this time however he did so without controversy as he entered to congratulate Hammond on his win. Conor could be seen out of his seat yelling instructions to his teammates throughout the show, even going so far as to help carry the injured Sinead Kavanagh out of the cage side area following her decision win over Leah McCourt. However, the biggest news out of the event in regards to “The Notorious” was his confirmation of a return schedule for the sport’s biggest star in an interview with Seán Sheehan of SevereMMA backstage at Bellator 275.
“April they said I can spar again, I can box again basically so I’m just gonna take it day by day.” McGregor said in the backstage interview, before revealing his timeline and advising 155 pound king Charles Oliveira that he should wait for him, “If you’re man’s (Oliveira) wise, he might give it another month or two. July seems ok for me. I can’t say too early but July, if I’m sparring in April, May, June, July – I could slap the head off of most of these guys at the end of April.”
McGregor has been on the shelf since his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirer since July of 2021 when he broke his leg in a horror injury and it seems “The Notorious” is looking to return exactly one year on from his loss at International Fight Week 2022. Charles Oliveira is currently tipped to fight Justin Gaethje next, who is the clear number 1 contender at this moment in time, but with Conor’s drawing power and Oliveira’s apparent willingness to wait for the Irishman, “The Highlight” could be passed over for the returning McGregor.
