Exclusive: So Cal Val On The Importance Of Progress’ All Women’s Show “Who Run The World”

It is a historic week for Progress Wrestling, all kicking off on tomorrow on the 20^th of March where ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham and Progress World Champion Cara Noir will clash in what should be an epic title vs title match up.

Then on the 25^th of March at the Progress 10^th Anniversary show, one of Progress’ most storied rivalries reignites once more. As current NXT UK Ilja Dragunov returns to Progress to rid himself of the defeat that has haunted him since revisiting his past in his recent journey to vanquish Walter now he looks to do the same Cara Noir.

In between those two dates Progress will be hosting at the Dome in London with, for the first time ever, an all Women’s show and an all BAME show. On the 22^nd of March, Progress will hold “Who Run The World” and on the 23^rd Roy Johnson’s Everything Patterned London.

We recently spoke with the announced lead commentator for the All Women’s show, So Cal Val, who would speak to us about the importance of Women’s wrestling, the evolution of women’s wrestling, why it’s important for promotions, such as the UK’s Progress, to hold all female shows.

So Cal Val would speak to us about her excitement to be part of a project such as Progress “Who Runs The World” and how she’s always been a vocal about the need for Female representation;

“When they approached me about this the name said it all to me, I thought this is my kind of show, this is up my alley or in the UK you would say right up my street, it is very very important to me to represent the ladies of wrestling, we have grown as women on TV with myself, Mickie James and co, the name of our show says it all, as well we’re all about female empowerment, we’re all about diversity and female wrestling the great thing about this card in particular is there is a lot of diversity a lot of different styles whether thats aesthetically in ring or athleticism that’s what we always talk about on the show is having a mix of everything, you know you have your serious wrestlers, you have more diva type wrestlers and we were just discussing this actually on our episode that aired yesterday with Candice Michelle I’ve been a big proponent of the diva era that was what I loved I didn’t want to be a Lita in due respect to more serious wrestlers I wanted to be a Tori or a Candice and now a days you really have a well rounded group of girls especially on this show its different facets of wrestling you got your diva types your very very ground and pound wrestlers, and to me, pun intended, what Progress in wrestling is all about its not just one representation of females in wrestling its actually a really cool amalgamation of different styles, looks and attitudes.”

So Cal would go on to talk about the importance for independent Wrestling’s biggest promotions such as Progress in the UK to host and promote all women shows;

“Its really important and you hit the nail on the head in the UK it was very apparent that yes, there are a lot of great promotions in the UK but Progress, it’s really progressive in what they’re doing its important to represent females and for me the fact that we’re going to have a female announce team is very very cool but Progress as I was saying is probably the top promotion in the UK, when I moved here that was really really evident by reputation and reputation is everything in terms of independent wrestling, you hear from the fans when you go to one or two indie shows you hear them talking about Progress and how great it is they’ve had such great success, especially with the WWE Network so its a promotion that I’ve had my eye on for a while and I have been here for almost 6 years living beautiful exotic Milton Keynes very proud of Milton Keynes and I was always sort of wondering if I could get with Progress, they’re very cool they’re very woke, they’re very edgy and its something I know the fans love and I’m just wowed to be part of this not only just join Progress but to be part of it in a female commentary role on and all female show is just the best kinda situation I could ask for.”

Progress Wrestling’s Who Run The World takes place at the Dome in London on the 22^nd of March tickets are still available at ProgressTickets.com. The show will be available to stream via the Peacock Streaming Service in the US, WWE Network everywhere else as well as Progress Wrestling’s on VOD service Demand Progress available worldwide shortly after the live event.
