British Police Investigating A Pro Wrestling DeathMatch That Went Too Far

Sometimes deathmatches can go too far.

The art of the deathmatch in pro wrestling is a fine line between sport and human cruelty. Many of the weapons you see in death matches are gimmicked, so they are not a real danger but they may appear to be brutal. However, on the lower end of the independent scene, fake is not affordable, so the real thing would have to do. This has led to many injuries from these small show deathmatches.

A wrestling event in England saw a bloody match between two participants. The bout between the fighters turned so intense that the pair left the entire ring and ringside soaked with blood. The two beat each other using lightbulbs and weedwhacker, causing more wounds to open up as the two lost so much blood. The match took place as part of Colliery Championship Wrestling org. at the New Seaham Conservative Club.

The controversy for this comes with the fact the show was advertised as a family friendly event so there were children present in the crowd of nearly 100 people. Police in the area have begun an investigation into the event. The organizer of the match has faced massive backlash when the clips from the event found their way to social media. The showrunner, James Brass said in an apology that the escalated match didn’t go as planned.

“Things can sometimes not go to plan,” Brass said. “Obviously there was a little bit more that went down. I spoke to the two guys afterwards. We had discussions and obviously that will not be happening again.”

A police spokesperson for the area made a statement on the match and the investigation:

“We are working with Durham County Council’s licensing team after a number of complaints were received by the local authority in relation to an event at Seaham Conservative Club on April 29.”
