UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs Rakic Results – 5/14/22

UFC presented their UFC Fight Night event on Saturday May 14, 2022 live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program featured the return of former Light-Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachowicz taking on the number three ranked Aleksandar Rakic. The results are below:

Andre Petroski defeats Nick Maximov via Round-One Submission (Anaconda Choke)

Andre keeps his undefeated UFC streak alive after taking Nick’s zero leaving him at 8-1. These two talked back and forth about who was the better wrestler throughout this buildup. Well, I think we have an answer. Andre called out Gerald Meerschaert for a fight in three weeks in Singapore.

Tatsuro Taira defeats Carlos Candelario via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

The new undefeated Japanese prospect earns a big win in his UFC debut. Tatsuro looked very sharp on the feet, even dropping Carlos at the start of round two. But, his wrestling was what was most impressive. The bout was a grapple-heavy matchup and Tatsuro Taira dominated. After the fight, Taira clarifies that he is here to win the flyweight championship.

Virna Jandiroba defeats Angela Hill via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Jandiroba finds her way back into the win column for her first appearance in 2022. Hard fought battle but a good win, which leads Virna to call out any top ten fighter for her next go-around.

Michael Johnson defeats Alan Patrick via second-round knockout (punch)

Michael walked into this fight on four straight losses and desperately needed something big here. When the pressure was on, he delivered a nasty four-punch combination followed up by a brutal hammer fist knockout. Michael Johnson says he is still one of the best strikers in the division, but is still trying to climb the ladder. He wants a few weeks to a month turn around.

Viviane Araujo defeats Andrea Lee via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27)

A very tough, scrappy fight here from both women. Araujo took a rough-looking kick to the head in the early stages of the fight but kept her composure and picked up the win with a grapple offense in her return from an approximate one-year layoff. She is back to her winning ways.

Allan Nascimento defeats Jake Hadley via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Allan picks up his first ever win in the UFC and comes by way of ending the undefeated run of Jake Hadley. Nascimento says he worked on his mat game and it really paid off here, using that to his advantage to get the hard fought victory.

Manuel Torres defeats Frank Camacho via first-round knockout (punch)

Newcomer Manuel Torres picks up a win in his official UFC debut after a successful win on Dana White’s Contender Series. Manuel landed a big left hook for the win, making this his 12th finish in 13 fights.

Katlyn Chookagian defeats Amanda Ribas via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

After a January turn around, Katlyn Chookagian gets another win to continue her now four fight win streak. Post-fight, she calls out anyone she hasn’t fought yet but especially wants the Flyweight Champion; Valentina Shevchenko.

Davey Grant defeats Louis Smolka via third-round knockout (punch)

Davey came out in the first looking as sharp as ever, but after he didn’t put him away in one, it turned into a war. Davey Grant pulls out a knockout in the third to end his two-fight skid. After the fight, he calls to be put in the UFC 4 video game. I think a performance like that deserve a game roster spot!

Ryan Spann defeats Ion Cutelaba via round-one submission (guillotine choke)

“Superman” picked up his twelfth submission win. Absolutely no time to breathe watching this one, fast-pace action from beginning to end. Post-fight, Ryan kept it short saying he is here for one thing; the championship.

Jan Blachowicz defeats Aleksandar Rakic via round-three TKO (injury, ref stoppage)

A fun fight while it lasted, Jan Blachowicz got busted up in the first. Rakic dominated round two. But, it all came to an end in the third round when Rakic took a step back with his right leg, causing his knee to pop out of place. Gruesome injury, especially when shown in slow motion. All class from Jan with no follow up shots. Jan says he wants his Light Heavyweight Championship back and will be watching June 11th’s UFC 275 event very closely as Champion Glover Teixeira defends against #2 Light Heavyweight Jirí Procházka.
