Naomi and Banks: An Interesting Story
The women’s tag team championships have always been an afterthought for WWE since the moment they were introduced. Banks and Naomi had the uphill battle to try to make the titles mean something but Vince McMahon never cared for them.
It’s understandable why both Naomi and Banks left frustrated by the booking of the women’s tag team division and even by the booking of the women’s division overall.
One of the first things people are mentioning related to this story is the possibility of Naomi and Banks jumping ship to AEW. That’s an improbable move for multiple reasons. First, they are still under contract with WWE, and second, WWE will not release Naomi and especially Banks so they can join AEW knowing that would be a major boost for the AEW women’s division.
What’s next? That’s the million-dollar question. There are several ways this could play out. According to several reports, the contracts of Naomi and Banks are set to expire soon and this could play a factor down the line, especially since the same reports indicate that at least one of the parties involved was on contract renewal negotiations right before they walked-out.
Naomi and Banks could wait until their contracts expire and see the landscape for them outside of WWE, but WWE could freeze their contracts like we’ve seen in the past with several wrestlers that wanted out of their WWE contracts. Banks and Naomi could return if WWE agrees to some of the demands they want but seem to be on a stalemate as of right now.
It’s very unlikely WWE will facilitate their release, especially considering Banks would be a major gamechanger for AEW. Naomi’s case is interesting, she always had potential to be a star but WWE never took advantage of the opportunities. There’s also the fact if both even want to join AEW, Banks most likely would go to Hollywood and the next step of her career, and Naomi could have a good indies run.
