UFC presented UFC 275 from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on Saturday night as promised. The anticipation of the night’s event, headlined by a contest between Glover Teixeira and Jiří Procházka, was high, but without further adieu, the results are as followed:
Joselyne Edwards defeats Ramona Pascual via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Joselyne Edwards picks up a victory, breaking her two fight losing streak in what seemed to be a very even match on the feet. Yet, Ramona seemed to be landing the more significant shots. That was until round three. Edwards ended up nearly shutting her opponent out in the final round and even stuffed nine of ten takedowns throughout every round. The improvements to Joselyn’s game were very noticeable.
Silvana Gomez Juarez defeats Na Liang via First-Round Knockout (punches)
Silvana gets a huge win early on, breaking her two fight losing streak and picking up her first victory in the UFC. Na was searching for a takedown from the start and Juarez was very aware of that, stuffing each one. Once they made their way back to the center of the octagon, Silvana dropped Liang to a knee with the right hand and fully put her out with the left. After the fight, Silvana Gomez Juarez calls for the 50k bonus from Dana White. She’s a shoe-in for that bonus for sure.
Kyung-ho Kang defeats Danaa Batgerel via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Kang is coming off his first loss in three years but he is back on track with this victory. A bit of a feeling out process for him in round one as Danaa got ahead, but Kang turned it up in round two and three. The jab was the story here, as he used that jab to push forward and really beat up the face of his opponent, as well as setting up his shots. Great performance from Kyung-ho Kang.
Brendan Allen defeats Jacob Malkoun via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Brendan Allen picks up his second win in 2022 after a win in February. Brendan clearly had the advantage on the feet in this fight, while Jacob had the ground advantage. Though, Brendan had some time on the ground as well and some would argue he did more with the time he spent in the wrestling portions of the fight. The fans in the arena did not seem happy with this, booing Brendan Allen’s hand being raised. But, the judges are who matters and they saw it in favor of Brendan Allen.
Hayisaer Maheshate defeats Steve Garcia via Round-One Knockout (punch)
Talk about maximizing a debut, Hayisaer Maheshate did all of that. First Chinese fighter to earn a contract from Dana White’s Contender Series and then walked into his UFC debut with a walk-off KO on the big show. Fireworks from the start here with both competitors throwing bombs, but it was a overhand right from Maheshate that put his opponent flat on his face. Post-fight, Hayisaer Maheshate says he will take his career step-by-step to get a world title. With that finish, he seems to be on the right path.
Joshua Culibao defeats Seung-Woo Choi via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Joshua Culibao picks up a split decision victory but it wasn’t easy. Joshua had two big knockdowns early in the fight but Choi kept getting back up and kept threatening with big shots of his own. Culibao was even taken down late in round three and threatened with a submission but in the end, the judges sided with Joshua. This is now his second victory in the UFC.
Jack Della Maddalena defeats Ramazan Emeev via Round-One TKO (punches)
Jack Della Maddalena gets his second UFC victory and now he is on a twelve fight win streak. Emeev locked in a tight submission, and had Jack on the brink of going out, but he escaped, got back up to his feet and landed a nasty body shot that dropped his opponent, then finished him off with some ground strikes. Jack is the real deal, proving it here in his toughest test yet. After the fight, Jack declares that he will fight again tonight if someone pulls out. Not happening, but hey, that’d be crazy, huh?
Jake Matthews defeats Andre Fialho via Round-Two Knockout (punches)
Jake Matthews came into this fight coming off a loss. He said he felt disrespected and overlooked against his opponent, but that’s certainly not anymore. Jake’s boxing looked as crisp as ever tonight and almost could’ve had a stoppage multiple times throughout both rounds. Although he did end round one on his back, he came out early in round two with the same speed and accuracy in his hands as the previous round and put Andre up against the cage and put his lights out. Jake Matthews tells us after the fight we’ve only seen 50% of what he has to offer.
Weili Zhang defeats Joanna Jędrzejczyk via Round-Two Knockout (spinning backfist)
Weili walked in on a two fight losing streak after losing her Strawweight championship two fights ago. Her last win was a five round war against Joanna and now in the rematch, Weili gets it done again in a fight that did not disappoint. Their first encounter was widely regarded as one of the greatest women’s mma fights of all time and the rematch was like adding two more rounds to the first fight. Fireworks from the beginning with Zhang putting so much pressure on Joanna and then landing a clean spinning backfist for a knockout planting Joanna on her face. Post-fight, Weili Zhang calls out champion Carla Esparza. But, the real story here is Joanna Jędrzejczyk announcing her retirement. She gives thanks to her team and the UFC before laying her gloves down on the mat. Congratulations on retirement and good luck in the future, Joanna.
Valentina Shevchenko defeats Taila Santos via split decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46)
Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her flyweight championship and continues her now nine fight win streak. But, it was not without struggles. Talia Santos gave Valentina her toughest challenge yet, especially when they went to the ground. Talia completed every takedown she tried for, and Valentina was in trouble. But, she outlasted it and continued to push on the feet and got the win. After the fight, Valentina said she is ready for whoever is next and will take on all challengers. Talia also got some post-fight interview time where she proclaimed she is young and will be back for the championship at some point.
Jiří Procházka defeats Glover Teixeira via Round-Five Submission (rear-naked choke)
Jiří Procházka is the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. It what was a five round war, both men battled back and forth on the feet and on the ground. Multiple times this fight could’ve ended for either man, and just when it looked like Glover was going to take round five and seemingly retain his championship, Jiří reverses a ground position and takes Glover’s back, locks in a rear-naked choke and gets the submission victory with thirty seconds left. After the fight, Jiří Procházka says he is glad to be champion and prove that he is a threat in every aspect of mixed martial arts and will keep his now thirteen fight win streak going. Glover got some interview time as well, claiming that even in his older age, he is not done yet. Fans are happy to hear this.
UFC 275 ended up being one of the more entertaining cards we’ve seen in a while from start to finish. From the early prelims to the main event, we saw some great finishes, awesome wars and overall outstanding moments. We saw champions retain and new champions arise, a retirement and a successful debut. UFC’s 275th pay-per-view did not disappoint.
