Floyd Mayweather Set for Rizin Return in September vs. Mikuru Asakura
The newly-inducted Hall of Famer and undefeated pro boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr is stepping back in the ring for Rizin, this time against another former Featherweight champion in MMA.
Mayweather Jr, who turned 45 in February looks like he has not lost a step in the boxing ring since announcing his retirement following his TKO win in the 10th round over Conor McGregor in 2017.
RIZIN made an announcement tonight revealing in a press conference the return of one of boxing’s all-time greats. In September 2022 on a date yet to be determined, Mayweather will take on former RIZIN Featherweight title challenger, Mikuru Asakura. The bout is expected to air on the new “RIZIN Fight Pass.” Specific details regarding what the service entails have yet to be shared.
The first time Mayweather Jr made his presence known for Rizin was with 1st round finish of Tenshin Nasukawa on New Years Eve in 2018 inside the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Since then he has fought YouTuber Logan Paul (2021) and former sparring partner Don Moore (2022) both to a no decision.
