UFC held its highly anticipated fight night card live from Austin, Texas in the Moody Center. The action packed event is headlined by two powerful, heavy hitters in Calvin Kattar & Josh Emmett. Without waiting any long, the results are in:
Roman Dolidze defeats Kyle Daukaus via Round-One Knockout (punches)
Roman Dolidze is not paid by the hour, because he came out with a bang tonight. He dropped Daukaus early on in the round, and props to Kyle, he got up. But, Dolidze ended up pushing Kyle against the cage and landed a vicious knee that dropped Daukaus. Roman then pounced on Kyle and finished him off with some ground strikes. Roman was 3-1 in his last four, with the loss being his only. Now, he gets another win to advance to 10-1. After the fight, Roman calls for a bonus and says he wants to fight as soon as possible. With a quick performance like that, a fast turn around is very possible.
Phil Hawes defeated Deron Winn via Round-Two Standing TKO (punches)
If the phrase “on-point” was a person, it would be a Phil Hawes tonight. He essentially pitched a shut-out in round one, with some beautiful punch combos and nasty elbows. He used his jab to perfection to keep Deron back, and was cutting up his face with elbows every time he got close. In round two, Phil came out adding kicks to his arsenal, as Deron tried to make it more wreckless to get inside. It was Phil who got the first takedown, but Winn did get up. In the end, Deron Winn would not fall, but was being picked apart, cut up, and overall outclassed. Phil Hawes takes the standing TKO win. After the fight, he calls to fight at UFC London. What a performance.
Cody Stamann defeats Eddie Wineland via Round-One Standing TKO (punches)
Two back-to-back standing TKO’s and another fast finish. Cody Stamann said he needed this and wanted to make a statement, he did just that. Cody looked flawless on the feet and took Eddie out quick. Cody was on a three fight losing streak with his most recent coming in January, but he is back in the win column. After the fight, he says he has no scratches on him and is ready to go in two weeks, against whoever, where ever. We could see yet another fast turn around for Cody Stamann after this statement victory.
Maria Oliveira defeats Gloria De Paula via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Maria Oliveira picks up a split decision victory in such a fun fight. Maria had thrown over 300 strikes, they were yelling at each other in the cage, this had all the fans on their feet. Maria is coming in off of her UFC debut loss, and now has a win on her UFC record.
Ricardo Ramos defeats Danny Chavez via Round-One Knockout (Spinning Elbow)
Something must be in the air tonight! Another fast finish, this time by Ricardo Ramos with a spinning back elbow! He’s landed this same strike multiple times over his career, and does it again here. He’s coming off a loss in his last bout, but he is back in the win column with a outstanding performance.
Jeremiah Wells defeats Court McGee via Round-One Knockout (punch)
Another knockout, another first round finish, Jeremiah Wells adds to the excitement of the night with a brutal hook knockout to put Court’s lights out. Wells is now on a five fight win streak and claims to be ready for any opponent they give him next. With power like that, excitement to see him back in the octagon has only risen.
Natalia Cristina Da Silva defeats Jasmine Jasudavicius via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
Natalia made her debut tonight and though she didn’t get the finish, she really pushed her opponent to the limit and looked great doing it. Da Silva pulled ahead early on in the fight and kept the momentum going until the last bell. She was very emotional after her win, deservedly so.
Adrian Yanez defeats Tony Kelley via Round-One TKO (punches)
Adrian Yanez kicks off the main card in the same way the prelims were going, a first round finish. This makes 9 wins in a row for Yanez, undefeated in the UFC and says after the fight that he is ready for whoever is next.
Gregory Rodrigues defeats Julian Marquez via Round-One Knockout (punch)
Gregory Rodrigues keeps the train rolling with a first round knockout. Gregory was coming off of a February loss but hops back up on the saddle with this performance. He had Julian wobbled and down multiple times but eventually, that one big powerful right hand out Julian out cold. Post fight, Gregory says he is a problem in this division and wants anyone they give him. He likes a challenge.
Damir Ismagulov defeats Guram Kutateladze via Majority decision (28-28, 29-28, 39-27)
Damir continues is win streak and is now riding a 19 fight win streak. He really put the pressure on his opponent here, despite a strange call at the end where the fight was stopped for a little bit due to a grounded knee to the head, when that actually didn’t happen. After the fight, he says he will continue his dominant reign and wants a ranked opponent.
Joaquin Buckley defeated Albert Duraev via Round Three TKO (ref stoppage)
Joaquin Buckley came into this fight amped up, and used the crowds energy to bring the fight to his opponent. His straight right was there for him all night and it played a big part in the fight, as he dropped Albert multiple times, and busted up his face. At the start of Round Three, the ref took a look at Alberts now swollen and shut eye and called a stop to this fight. Buckley is now on a three fight win streak, and calls for UFC to give him anyone and in front of a crowd, he will continue to finish his opponents.
Kevin Holland defeats Tim Means via Round Two Submission (d’arce choke)
Kevin Holland gets a finish again, this time, by submission. He looked as sharp as ever tonight in his home state. He was looking phenomenal on the feet, basically shutting Tim out with the strikes. But, when Tim tried to take down Kevin in the second, he took the neck, caught Tim in a D’arce choke and finished the fight. After the fight, Kevin says he feels like he can finish anyone by submission. Kevin Holland called out Sean Brady for a September fight, and is looking for two more this year.
Josh Emmett defeats Calvin Kattar via Split Decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)
Josh Emmett is now on a 5 fight win streak after a all out war tonight. It was such a close fight, and anyone could’ve taken it. Josh was loading up and throwing bombs, continuously pushing forward, and keeping the pressure all night long. Post fight, Josh says he will be cage side for the upcoming Volkanovski vs Holloway Featherweight Title Fight, and calls to Dana white to give him the next title shot.
Overall, this was one hell of a card with such action packed fights. We got 8 knockouts tonight, submission finishes and one hell of a war to close out the show. This is a sure fire contender for fight card of the year.
