Alex Volkanovski Aims For Lightweight Championship Next
Alex Volkanovski is the current UFC Featherweight Champion. He will be defending his championship in a trilogy fight against Max Holloway on July 2nd at UFC 276. If he wins, his eyes will be on another prize.
Currently, the UFC Lightweight Championship is vacant, after former champion Charles Oliveira missed weight and was stripped of the title. He is still the number one contender though, and there’s a possibility he could fight Volkanovski for the 155 pound Championship. Alex recently sat down with BTSport to talk about possibly becoming champ-champ.
After this one, I go do my thing. It’s gonna give me time to go at least have a chance to go for that double-champ status. That’s what I want. I’m gonna do what I plan on doing and that’s what I’m gonna call for.

UFC often mentions how Alex used to be much heavier when he played rugby, so a move up from 145 to 155 shouldn’t be too hard to handle for the Featherweight Champion. As for now, Alex can’t get a good look on who he could potentially be facing if he were to move up, since the Championship is vacant, but a fight against Oliveira, Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier or even Conor McGregor could all be potential options.
