It’s finally time for UFC 276. To cap off international fight week, we have a huge card headlined by Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier for the UFC Middleweight Championship. Now, let’s get into the results!
Julija Stoliarenko defeats Jessica-Rose Clark via Round-One Submission (Armbar)
First fight in, and we get a first round finish. This one didn’t take long to hit the mat and once we got there, Julija was all over Jessica and locked up an arm-bar that dislocated Jessica’s arm for sure. It popped out of place almost instantly and the tap came right away. Julija breaks her three fight win streak and gets her first victory in UFC!
Maycee Barber defeats Jessica Eye via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
Maycee Barber just dominated in the clinch tonight. That was the story of the fight. Jessica continued to chase a takedown but Barber defended almost all of them and beat Eye up in the clinch, busting up her face with some brutal elbows. After the fight, Jessica Eye put her gloves in the cage and announced her retirement. We wish the best to Jessica Eye on her future.
Andre Muniz defeats Uriah Hall via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Andre Muniz used his grappling to dominate Uriah here. He continuously took Uriah down and wouldn’t let him get up, and when he did, he got taken right back down. Was was constantly looking for an arm submission, but couldn’t get it so he took a decision win. Now, he will be in the top 10 coming next week and advanced his winning streak to 5-0 in the UFC.
Dricus Du Plessis defeats Brad Tavares via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
What a fight. Brad came out in round one to wrestle and looked to be steamrolling ahead going into the second, but Dricus started throwing bombs and suddenly, before we knew it, we had a bloody war with both men just throwing bombs. Dricus started to take the lead on the feet and let that momentum take him into the third and to pick up the decision win. He stays undefeated in UFC with a 3-0 record.
Ian Garry defeats Gabriel Green via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Ian Garry has been telling everyone about how much of a stud he is, and he showed it tonight. He was crisp, clean and on point in the standup, keeping his composure and didn’t rush anything while keeping his accuracy on point. He looked good tonight in every round and even dropped Gabe in the third and almost out it away. If he keeps this up, he could be a real problem. He is now 3-0 in the UFC, 10-0 overall. Great showing from Ian Garry.
Jim Miller defeats Donald Cerrone via Round-Two Submission (guillotine)
Jim Miller is now the all-time wins leader in UFC. Cerrone looked solid here but threw a head kick in round two and slipped, causing Jim to hop right onto his neck and lock in that guillotine for the win. That’s three in a row for Jim Miller and 24 wins in the UFC overall, making him the leader in UFC wins. After the fight, Cowboy Donald Cerrone put his gloves and cowboy hat down in the middle of the cage and officially retired. He says he just doesn’t love it anymore and will be going to be a movie star. Congrats to both Cowboy and Jim for big moments tonight.
Jalin Turner defeats Brad Riddell via Round-One Submission (Guillotine)
Jalin Turner just made it look easy tonight. Brad didn’t even get to settle in. He tried for a leg kick, but Jalin countered with a hook that wobbled Brad. Riddell, stunned, tried for a takedown but Jalin jumped right on the guillotine and it was over just like that. Turner will now seemingly be in the top 15 coming next week and is now on a five fight win streak, all finishes. After the fight, he said he wants another fight this year or early next year. We can’t wait to see him back in the cage.
Sean O’Malley vs. Pedro Munhoz ends via No Decision.
Sean O’Malley and Pedro Munhoz was off to a technical start. Pedro coming out looking for the calf kicks, O’Malley doing his best to check and counter with a jab and some kicks of his own. Round two, much of the same, O’Malley ramping up that jab, then, Sean pokes Pedro in the eye. He wasn’t able to open it back up and the fight was called off to a no decision. Anticlimactic ending to the opening main card fight.
Bryan Barberena defeats Robbie Lawler via Round-Two TKO (Punches)
Two absolute warriors stepped into the cage and it was everything we thought it would be. Robbie was really working his jab in one, but a nasty uppercut and seemingly had Bryan behind on the feet. But, Bryan came out in round two swinging. He overwhelmed Robbie on the feet and had him wobbled several times before the ref stepped in and called it. After the fight, Bryan called for them to get the bonus. We’ll see if that happens.
Alex Pereira defeats Sean Strickland via Round-One Knockout (Punch)
You can’t stand in front of Alex Pereira. He just showed why. A nasty left hook drops Strickland, he tried to stand up on wobbly legs and got put straight back down with a right. Alex is now 3-0 in the UFC and now defeated the #4 Sean Strickland. Post fight, Alex says he knows he has earned a title shot now and wants it. He’s previously beaten Israel Adesanya twice in kick-boxing. Alex wants everyone to cheer for Adesanya tonight so they can fight.
Alexander Volkanovski defeats Max Holloway via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45)
Alexander Volkanovski is 3-0 against Max Holloway after pitching an absolute shut out tonight. 50-45 from all judges, he looked better than he’s ever been tonight. His speed was impeccable, the way he cut angles was masterful and busted Max up like no one ever has. He had something to prove tonight and he did it. After the fight, Alexander says he wants to move up and go for the 155 pound title, even calling out Charles Oliveira for a possible fight. Would love to see that. And Still.
Israel Adesanya defeats Jared Cannonier via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45)
Israel Adesanya just wouldn’t let Jared get in close here, every time Jared clinched, Izzy got out. He didn’t let Jared get any takedowns and Israel used his unique movements, kicks and heavy on the jabs to defeat Jared Cannonier here. After the fight, Israel cut right to the chase and said he knows who’s next, Alex Pereira and this time, he will put Alex on skates and finish him. Alex, who KO’d Strickland earlier on in the night, is 2-0 against Adesanya in kickboxing and has knocked Israel out. Now, they’ll fight under MMA rules.
Overall, another fun Pay-Per-View from UFC. The undercard over-delivered and despite the main event being lackluster and the opening fight being anticlimactic, this was still a fun show. We’ll continue to have coverage from all UFC events.
