Randy Orton Was Not A Fan Of Hardcore Spot With Mick Foley

Randy Orton was not a fan of the tacks at Backlash 2004.

In the early days of his WWE career, the main gimmick that Randy Orton had in the company was his legend killer gimmick. Slowly and methodically, Orton knocked off legend after legend as his WWE career began. One name he squared off with was Mick Foley at Backlash 2004. The match featured several hardcore sports, including tacks.

Mick Foley spoke about the match during the latest episode of “Foley is Pod.” Foley revealed Randy was not a fan of the spot with tacks:

“You can’t fake the shock that he was in,” Foley said, during the latest episode of “Foley is Pod.” “His eyes were just wide open. I bring him up to the ramp and throw him off the ramp, which also gives me a little bit of time to rest up as that camera goes over and over.

“Mike Chioda goes to check on Randy, and all Randy can say is, ‘Chioda, those tacks were a bad idea.’ He’s really feeling it and now. I come off that ring apron with what I think is the best elbow of my career, partially because it’s captured with that low-angle shot; I couldn’t have dropped a better one in my life.”

Tacks aren’t used a lot in the WWE anymore, if at all. While they routinely still appear on AEW during stipulation matches, it is probably a good thing these spots have not been more prevalent over the last few years.
