Khamzat Chimaev Calls For A Fight vs. Alex Pereira, Gets Response from Pereira
The UFC may have to halt any plans they have for a potential Middleweight championship fight in the near future.
UFC Welterweight Khamzat Chimaev, who recently defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 by a close decision had this to say about Alex Pereira’s win over the weekend at UFC 276 against ranked opponent Sean Strickland.
The win over Strickland for Pereira has fans wondering if the UFC’s next move for Israel Adesanya’s next Middleweight title defense will be against the former foe who defeated the champion twice in kickboxing. However a call out from Chimaev could prevent the UFC from letting us see it happen anytime soon.
Speaking via a translator, Pereira spoke about Chimaev’s call-out, saying to Helen Yee, of ‘HYS‘:
“Well, I’m gonna keep the same line that I always do. See what’s in front of me you know, what is ahead. Same with Sean Strickland’s fight. People were talking about Israel’s fight, and I say ‘Look, I’ve got this first.’ Right now, I’m gonna take care of my fight with Israel for the title, and then after that we’ll see about that.”
Pereira will be focusing on Adesanya first and if successful, he is open to a fight vs. Chimaev in the future, it would be an interesting matchup for both fighters who know how to put on a show for the fans.
