  • The Curious Case of HDLV

    The Curious Case of HDLV

Lucha Libre has caught the attention of fans outside Mexico over the last couple years, specially when the Mexican companies where one of the few ones that continued to do shows during the Pandemic, giving people another alternatives to watch pro wrestling outside WWE, specially when AEW was just starting to build up their identity around the time, while a few prospects from Mexico caught the attention of people. Today, we will speak about the curious case of one of the top mentioned names that are still shuffling in current day: El Hijo del Vikingo.

    Background of HDV

First of all: Who’s El Hijo del Vikingo? He’s a second generation star, son of the Luchador King Vikingo, a wrestler known for his independent run on local promotions in Puebla, Mexico and a tenure on Lucha Libre AAA, company where he formed some ties that would have an impact on what would be the future for his children on the industry. King Vikingo was not a popular name for the average fan of Lucha Libre.

His names starting gaining more attention during 2025, when he was attacked by Alberto El Patron during a tv show in Mexico called Venga La Alegria in the middle of his feud with Hijo del Vikingo in AAA.

Hijo del Vikingo would make his debut in 2012 at the age of 14 and by the age of 19, he signed a full time contract with AAA in 2017, he started as a filler participant in multi man tag matches and ended up receiving a contract by Vampiro Canadiense.

Hijo del Vikingo would then become a relevant individual on the Trios Division and the Tag Team Division, working with Laredo Kid and Angelikal in a stable known as Los Jinetes del Aire and would later be joined by Golden Magic, Octagon Jr and Myzteziz Jr. He would become a 2 time World Trios Champion for the company and challenged for the Tag Team Championship several times, one being the highly acclaimed match between him and Laredo Kid against The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr and Rey Fenix) at Heroes Inmortales 2021.

    The Turning Point

After then reigning AAA Mega Champion, Kenny Omega, retained the championship against Andrade El Idolo at Triplemania XXIX, he randomly declared his intentions to defend the championship against Vikingo, this decision would cause hype on some cases but also a lot of criticism, as a certain sector felt that Vikingo didn’t earned the opportunity to get that chance to not only wrestle Kenny Omega, but a change to become the Mega Champion. The match would end up not happening as Omega vacated the championship due to injury. Vikingo would go on to become champion in a Five-Way match by defeating Samuray del Sol, Bobby Fish, Jay Lethal and Bandido, this match occurred thanks to the former alliance between All Elite Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA.

Championship Run and Current Day Boos

Vikingo would start appearing on AAA programming and several promotions around the United States as champion, including MLW’s Azteca Underground, GCW and finally AEW, where he finally had his match against Kenny Omega in a match that was considered a dream for many, but a forced act for others as Vikingo never looked like a “credible champion” despite being ranked eight on PWI’s top 500, the highest a Mexican wrestler has ever been since Alberto del Rio since 2013. He would go on an vacate the AAA Mega Championship after 833 days due to injury in March 2024.

During his time way during injury, it was revealed that Hijo del Vikingo stopped paying child support to both of his children, its known that one of the kids is product of his previous relationship with female Luchadora Hades while the other child’s mother information is not of public matter, starting the slow turn of support by Mexican fans towards Hijo del Vikingo, who, apparently, never acknowledged or explained the situation legally (and publicly), causing the AAA socials filled with negative comments towards his persona. He would then return from injury, feuding with Alberto El Patron and El Ojo, but due to the negative comments of child support and the involvement of King Vikingo, who was rumoured to be vouching for his son to get a bigger importance along him on the product, Vikingo started getting constant boos on every show he presented himself in Mexico. Feuding with El Patron, who’s a beloved wrestler in the country and was the AAA Mega Champion at the time didn’t helped his case. WWE would go on and buy AAA, including Vikingo’s contract and making him the first WWE-AAA Deal to be signed, forcing the story with Alberto and El Ojo be wrapped up abruptly, beating him for the AAA Mega Championship to an immense and loud angry crowd and then beating him on a rematch inside a Steel Cage at Triplemania Regia, El Patron would go on and leave AAA after being betrayed by El Ojo, thus getting his contract terminated by WWE orders.

Hijo del Vikingo has been a prominent persona ever since AAA was purchased by WWE and still is to this day, forming a new version of El Ojo after his heel turn due to the negative of people wanting to support him along Omos and Dorian Roldan. Vikingo’s most recent chapters of his career was challenging Dominik Mysterio at Rey de Reyes, failing to become a three-time AAA Mega Champion and then challenging Penta for WWE’s Intercontinental Championship in what became the first time a WWE Championship was defended on AAA programming.

WWE RAW: Ethan Page Wins RAW Debut, Rusev Attacks Je’Von Evans

As noted earlier, Ethan Page made his debut on RAW and is officially called up to the red brand. Now, he’s had his first official debut match. To kick off his Raw career, Ethan Page went one-on-one with an old rival in Je’Von Evans.

After coming face-to-face backstage, this match was made, with both men looking to make an impression on Adam Pearce to become next in line for the intercontinental championship.

    https://x.com/bodyslamnet/status/2046393424304099461?s=46

For Je’Von Evans, this is just 24 hours after a grueling ladder match. And while Je’Von did great in the early going, showing off all his athletic ability, it did start to wear on him, as he was heavily favoring his ribs. His full right right was taped up, as well as his left shoulder.

After a very entertaining matchup, Rusev showed up and tried to attack Je’Von, but initially failed. This allowed Ethan Page to gain control and pick up the victory with the twisted grin.

After the match, Rusev laid out Je’Von before Penta ran down to make the save. Ethan then pushed Penta off the top rope and allowed Rusev to take out Penta, too. Rusev stood tall with the intercontinental championship while Ethan Page watched.

  • The Wrestlemania Rundown: The Cody Edition

The Wrestlemania Rundown: The Cody Edition

Wrestlemania 42 is officially in the books and.. boy did it fly by! It came and it went. What a weekend. Welcome to the Wrestlemania Rundown: The Cody Edition. Where I give my thoughts and opinions and you either agree or disagree. Let’s get into it!

I want to get this out of the way. In my humble opinion, night 2 saved the weekend. Night 2 had the star power, the matches, and the build for these matches were better than half of the matches on night 1.

So let’s start from the top. John Cena comes out and welcomes everyone back for night 2 of Wrestlemania after a historic and incredible night 1. Now I don’t know what show Cena watched. But I don’t think we watched the same one. He hyped up Oba VS Lesnar and then walked away.

First up, was the match I have been looking forward to since it was announced, Oba VS Lesnar. Now I’ve seen a lot of people say that the match was way too short. Here’s the thing. For me it lived up to the expectations. This match was made to make Oba Femi look strong and it did just that. It gave Oba his mania moment. It was chaos, it was fun, and the people love Femi. The talk of the night was the ending. When the match was over, Lesnar stayed back and took his gloves and boots off and laid them in the ring. Heyman and Lesnar were very emotional to close it as he left the ring. So is he retired? I don’t think so. But we shall see. Rating: 8/10

Next up, the 6 man ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. The attires? On point. The match? Incredible, this match was everything I expected it to be and more. It had the athleticism, the crowd was in it, it had the spots, and the moments. It was a true Wrestlemania style ladder match. I truly didn’t expect Penta to win but to my surprise he did and I was very okay with it. Rating: 9.5/10

Up next, Trick Williams VS Sami Zayn for the United States Championship. This match was good. I wish I had more and Trick got showcased more than he did, this match seemed to of flew by. Trick is over and Vegas HATED Sami. Trick winning the title was the right call. WWE needs to continue pushing him to the moon. Rating: 7/10

Next was the return of the alter ego. The Demon. Dirty Dom Mysterio VS Finn Balor. Before I go into the match I just wanna say. These entrances were fantastic. The king of the luchadores entrance was great and the return of the demon was excellent. I said out loud during Finn’s entrance “he actually looks happy and looks like he’s having fun”. The match itself lived up to the story. It had everything. The addition of the street fight stipulation was a welcomed one and I feel like added a little more excitement. However I wish I had more. More outside of the ring moments and maybe even some in the crowd moments. But this match was great. I would say this was probably my 3rd favorite match of the night. 8.5/10

Next was the Woman’s Championship match. First things first. I hated that Rhea came out last with no special entrance. I get that they may of done that for a reason but I just didn’t enjoy it. This match was pretty good. Another match I think we needed more of. The addition of IYO got a huge pop and I was very happy with that. Rhea winning was okay. We knew it would happen. I was hoping for a swerve and they kept building Jade up and getting her better but I guess not. Let’s see what’s next for her. Rating: 7/10

The Danhausen segment was incredible. I loved everything about it and I love that they are going all in on Danhausen. He is incredible and very good for WWE.

The main event. The match to end the weekend. Incredible, outstanding. I have so many words I could use but you would be reading this for a while. This match was everything. We knew that Roman would most likely be winning this one and at the end of the night. He ultimately did. I’m interested to see what they do with Punk now. How often is Roman going to show up? Is this ultimately leading to Riyadh for the rumored Rock VS Roman match? I guess we will wait and see. Rating: 9/10

That’s it! Mania is over and in the books. The build now begins for the next one. Obviously we still have the Raw after Mania which is normally a very big show as well as the Smackdown after Mania. What’s in store? Who knows! It’s post Wrestlemania season.. anything can happen! But for now I give Wrestlemania 42 an overall rating of 7/10.

Thank you for joining me on the Wrestlemania Rundown: The Cody Edition. Maybe this will become a thing for all PLE’s. Who knows! But until then remember to subscribe to Bodyslam.net and follow us for all things wrestling.

    WrestleMania: Penta Retains Intercontinental Championship

The final match on the ESPN portion of WrestleMania 42 Night 2 was a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship between Penta, Rey Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Rusev, Dragon Lee and Je’Von Evans.

    https://x.com/bodyslamnet/status/2045998247550881926?s=46

This match was exactly what you’d expect it to be, chaos. From broken ladders to broken bodies, these six men destroyed each other. And Penta literally destroyer’d JD into a ladder and it was disgusting!

    https://x.com/bodyslamnet/status/2045997219359137985?s=46

After everybody took an insane fall, it was Je’Von who took out Rusev with a OG Cutter from a-top the ladder. Then, Penta capitalized and hit a Destoryer on Evans, clearing his path and capturing the championship.

  • WrestleMania 42 Night 2 Preview and Predictions: Full Match Picks

WrestleMania 42 Night 2 Preview and Predictions: Full Match Picks

WrestleMania 42 wraps up Sunday, April 19, with a loaded Night 2 card that will shape WWE’s direction moving forward. The show is headlined by Roman Reigns challenging CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship. Several other title matches and key matchups round out the night.

    Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi

This is one of the most intriguing matches on the card. Oba Femi has momentum, but WWE often takes a cautious approach with rising stars. Brock Lesnar winning keeps him strong for future programs, and I don’t think he loses until his retirement match. To clarify, these predictions are not what I would do, but how I see WWE working.

    Winner: Brock Lesnar

    Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match

Penta defends against Rusev, Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio, Je’Von Evans and JD McDonagh. The match lacks a strong story, but the field suggests a showcase. Rey Mysterio stands out as a potential surprise winner in a moment-driven match.

    Winner: Rey Mysterio

    United States Championship Match

Sami Zayn defends against Trick Williams. A character shift appears likely, with Zayn leaning heel and Williams gaining momentum as a fan favorite. Williams feels positioned for a breakout moment.

    Winner: Trick Williams

    Finn Balor vs. Dominik Mysterio

The long running Judgment Day story has cooled, but Balor bringing back his Demon persona signals a decisive outcome. Dominik Mysterio remains effective regardless of results.

    Winner: Finn Balor

    WWE Women’s Championship Match

Jade Cargill defends against Rhea Ripley. With uncertainty around Bianca Belair’s status due to being pregnant, Cargill retaining keeps options open for a future title change tied to Belair’s return. But that seems like a long time from now. I think changes plans.

    Winner: Rhea Ripley

    World Heavyweight Championship Match

CM Punk defends against Roman Reigns in the main event. Reigns regaining the title creates fresh storyline paths and potential rivalries. Punk’s direction may shift following a loss.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

    Final Thoughts

WrestleMania 42 Night 2 looks set to deliver defining moments, with title changes, breakout performances and major storyline shifts all on the table. By the end of the night, WWE should have a clearer picture of its next era (another one?), with new stars rising and familiar names continuing to shape the main event scene.

-Paul Heyman appears on the top of the entrance ramp and says he can’t remember the last time that he saw someone rise to the top as fast as Femi has.

-He says Femi is the most violent person to come to WWE since Brock Lesnar and says he’s the fastest rising star to the top since Lesnar but says all of that will come to an end at Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 when everything comes crashing down and Lesnar defeats him.

-Heyman says his door will always be open to Femi & Femi tells Heyman that it’s taking everything out of him not to beat him down right now.

-He says the physical scars would heal for Heyman but the emotional scars of defeating Lesnar would last forever for Heyman.

-He says 2 months ago, Heyman & Lesnar came into the ring and issued an Open Challenge for WrestleMania 42 for whoever cared to step up.

-He says Heyman & Lesnar rightfully didn’t care who Lesnar faces because Lesnar would win but he has 4 weeks of history to prove that he can beat Lesnar.

-He says himself, Heyman & the fans can feel it then says if Heyman was honest, he would have said that Lesnar is scared of him. He says he’s always been the one.

  • WWE Raw: Rusev Loses Tag Team Match, Stands Tall Afterwards

WWE Raw: Rusev Loses Tag Team Match, Stands Tall Afterwards

At WrestleMania 42, we have a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship Match. Four of those six competitors competed tonight in tag team action when Je’Von Evans and Dragon Lee battled Rusev and JD McDonagh. While it will be every man for themselves this weekend, these teams have to work together tonight to get a slight mental advantage.

While Dragon Lee and Je’Von Evans have been friendly in the past, it was interesting to see if JD McDonagh and Rusev would work well together. In the early going, they did solid, but it was Je’Von Evans who had everyone reeling with his ferocious offense.

JD was even showing off as well, hitting a Moonsault to the outside. But, when the likes of Je’Von Evans went to the well to often for a high-flying maneuver, Rusev was able to catch and destroy.

    https://x.com/bodyslamnet/status/2043872941213880494?s=46

When Je’Von’s offense lacks, Dragon Lee was there to pick up the slack. Dragon and JD had some very fun back-and-forth offense while they were in the ring together, including Dragon Lee picking up the win with a Styles Clash.

Before Je’Von and Dragon could even celebrate, Rusev was on the attack post-match. Then, here came Rey Mysterio and Penta to join the fray. This rounds out all the WrestleMania competitors, but Rusev laid them all out. Even JD McDonagh.

    https://x.com/bodyslamnet/status/2043874239699107979?s=46

At WrestleMania 42, Penta will put his intercontinental championship on the line against Rusev, Je’Von Evans, Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio & JD McDonagh. This will air on the first hour of WrestleMania Night 2, Sunday, on ESPN.
