WWE Money in the Bank 2026 brings ladder-match drama to New Orleans

WWE Money in the Bank returns on Saturday 10 October, when the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans hosts one of the company’s most unpredictable events. The show begins at 6pm ET, which is 11pm in the UK, and international viewers can watch live on Netflix.

Two six-person ladder matches sit at the centre of the card. The men and women must climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase suspended above the ring. Each briefcase contains a contract for a championship match that can be used at a time and place chosen by its holder during the following year.

That prize means the result can affect WWE programming long after the event finishes. A contract holder can challenge a champion following an exhausting match, announce a title bout in advance or simply use the possibility of a cash-in to place pressure on several champions at once.

The sudden changes associated with the contract may appeal to some of the same viewers who enjoy the fast results of an online casino, but Money in the Bank creates its uncertainty through rivalries, athletic performance and tactical decisions. Winning requires more than reaching the top of a ladder. A wrestler must also keep five opponents away long enough to release the briefcase.

Who has qualified for the men’s ladder match?

Five wrestlers have secured places in the men’s match: Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, United States Champion Trick Williams, Penta and CM Punk. One position remains available, leaving the final line-up incomplete with less than two weeks until the event.

Breakker appears particularly well suited to a match that rewards explosive movement. He qualified by defeating Rey Mysterio and Ethan Page in a triple-threat contest, finishing Mysterio with a Spear after stopping him on the top rope. Breakker’s speed can remove an opponent quickly, although the crowded ring may limit the space needed for his most powerful attacks.

Je’Von Evans offers a different threat. His agility could help him move around ladders and recover positions quickly, while his willingness to take risks makes him dangerous when conventional routes to the briefcase disappear. His recent victory over Breakker came by disqualification, adding tension between two competitors who must now share the same match.

Penta brings experience in bouts built around physical punishment. He entered the field after replacing Solo Sikoa in a qualifier against Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee. His ability to attack the arm may also matter because every competitor needs enough strength in both hands to climb and unhook the contract.

CM Punk carries the strongest connection with the event’s history. He qualified by defeating Gunther and Finn Bálor, earning another opportunity in the match that helped establish him as a leading WWE star earlier in his career. Punk won consecutive Money in the Bank ladder matches in 2008 and 2009, making him the only confirmed entrant with experience of successfully retrieving the briefcase.

Trick Williams completes the current group. As United States Champion, he enters with an existing title and the possibility of securing a route towards another. That status may also make him a target if the remaining competitors believe he has too much to gain.

Can the women’s field produce a new championship threat?

Sol Ruca, Lola Vice, Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne, Roxanne Perez and Lash Legend have qualified for the women’s match. As with the men’s field, WWE has one remaining position to fill.

Ruca qualified on the 7 September edition of Raw by beating Lyra Valkyria and Maxxine Dupri. Her aerial ability gives her several possible ways to use the ladders, but spectacular attacks can create openings for opponents if they fail. The briefcase, rather than a pinfall, remains the only objective.

Perez enters with useful experience after competing in the 2025 edition. Familiarity with the unusual pace should help, particularly during periods when several wrestlers are outside the ring and the route to the contract appears temporarily clear. Those moments rarely last more than a few seconds.

Legend has the size to control climbing exchanges, while Vice can use her striking to prevent opponents reaching the ladder. Jayne faces a slightly different calculation as an existing champion. She must protect herself without becoming so cautious that she misses the opportunity to win a contract for a more senior title.

Temporary alliances are likely. Two wrestlers may need to cooperate to remove a stronger opponent or move an occupied ladder, but that agreement ends as soon as the briefcase becomes reachable. Positioning and awareness can therefore matter as much as the biggest individual move.

Why is Roman Reigns facing LA Knight?

World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will defend against LA Knight in the leading conventional match on the card. Their dispute developed after Knight demanded a title opportunity and accused Reigns of depending on his family to retain control.

Reigns rejected the initial challenge, arguing that Knight had not earned the match. Knight responded after Reigns retained the championship against Penta in Mexico City on 14 September, attacking the champion with a BFT once the broadcast had ended. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce made the title match official the following day.

Knight has previously dealt with The Bloodline, so interference and ringside distractions will not be unfamiliar. His problem is maintaining control against a champion who is comfortable slowing the pace and forcing challengers into mistakes.

Reigns must also consider what happens elsewhere on the card. If the men’s ladder match takes place before his defence, its winner could possess a valid contract by the time Reigns and Knight enter the ring. A demanding title match would create exactly the kind of opportunity a new briefcase holder might exploit.

What does Oba Femi against Bronson Reed add to the card?

Oba Femi will meet Bronson Reed in another confirmed singles match. Reed accepted the challenge after members of The Vision, including Bron Breakker, Austin Theory and Logan Paul, had been involved in attacks on Femi.

The match gives the event a direct contest between two of WWE’s most physically imposing wrestlers. Reed’s offence is built around body weight and impact, while Femi can overpower opponents who normally control matches through strength.

The Vision may become a factor. Breakker already has his own ladder match, but his association with Reed creates the possibility that events earlier in the night could affect the singles contest. Femi’s return attack on the group on 21 September has also made the dispute broader than one isolated match.

Why are Money in the Bank matches so difficult to control?

A standard match gives each wrestler a clear route to victory through pinfall or submission. A ladder match removes those methods and introduces several moving pieces. The wrestler closest to the briefcase is not necessarily the one who has performed best across the match.

Competitors must judge when to climb, when to clear the ring and when to conserve energy. Setting up a ladder too early can alert every opponent. Waiting too long may allow somebody else to take advantage of an empty ring.

Ladders also change the physical demands. Damage to the hands, arms, legs or lower back can make climbing difficult even when no opponent is nearby. A wrestler may spend several minutes creating an opening, only to discover that the effort required has left them unable to reach the contract quickly enough.

That combination of simple rules and complicated decisions gives Money in the Bank its lasting value. On 10 October, two wrestlers will leave New Orleans with contracts capable of changing WWE’s championship picture. Roman Reigns and every other title holder will then have a new threat to consider.
